Winter Run - "Way out West"
Posted 24.10.2007, 15:24 by Step_7
News OK, its been ages since I've been out on a run so I'm going to float some details out here. (This isn't an Ni-Minis run as such but all are welcome)

I'm looking at Sunday 25th November 11.00am. This is pretty much the only suitable date for me in November as I am working the first 2 Sundays and the WRC Ireland is the third weekend and December is pretty much out for most people as the Christmas Party season looms!

I'd quite like to go out into Tyrone and the Sperrins for something a bit new! OK, I've done this route with MINI2 but there are some great roads which deserve a wider audience! wink I will shorten the route slightly so it should be about 100 miles.

Starting point will be the roundabout on the main Belfast/Derry A6 road near Castledawson. There is a car park here beside the KFC on the road to Magherafelt which is fairly easy to find! The route finishes here as well.

Map showing the start point is here:

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat...le=10000&icon=x

As it is "out of season" for some folk with cars put away for the Winter, non-minis will be most welcome - its all about a fun drive after all! wink Obviously it will be more fun in a Mini but then aren't most things????? Laughing

Lunch can be either a picnic in Gortin Glen Forest Park (£3 Entry including a Forest Drive wink ) or pub grub in Gortin Village - Either way the drive from Gortin to the Forest Park will be done several times just for fun!!!!! B)

Thats all I can think of for now but if there are any other thoughts or questions let me know!

Help me decide
Posted 18.09.2007, 20:18 by big-pete
News I cant decide what wheels/arches to put on the mini?

I love the street race look, retro with a modern feel, so the car is going to have -
Front:
Morris MK1 grille
Bonnet pinned in 4 corners (raised at the back) with the stripes removed
Crystal headlights
Clear lenses on front
Spots removed

I would love to put 10x6 minilights (poss anthracite centers) with grp5 or W&P arches but im not sure if it would work with the surf blue??

On the other hand im thinking Grp5 arches and 13x7 splitrim superlights??

I really am torn Confused

Metro 4 pot conversion help?
Posted 10.09.2007, 22:33 by typhax
News hi,

i have 8.4" upgraded discs (not sure exactly what they are) with the standard calipers, but i was wondering would it be worth upgrading to metro disks and calipers?

I basically want to increase the performance of the brakes without spending too much money. I didnt really think that the ones i have are doing the job?

Any advice would be most welcome!

Thanks,

Jason

News year 2000 Mini Seven LE in MINT condition, with only 10,000 Miles this Mini is perfect. Only 30 red sevens were produced and they were to celebrate the end of production, first Mini ever produced was the Austin Seven.
It is totally original with no modifications at all, absolutely Mint all over, wheel arches still original red paint that shines.

It has the usual 2000 Mini extra's, airbag, alarm, adjustable headlights, 1275 MPI.

Red seatbelts x 4 compliment the interior of the car with half leather red and cream seats, just like the old Austin Seven.

FULL service history included, not that there is much of it with only 10,000 miles!

An excellent Mini which has to be seen to be beleived, genuine reason for sale.

Competition for a very special prize from Sound in Motion
Posted 23.08.2007, 16:46 by Douzeper
News Prize is two pairs of tickets (two winners) to an invite only evening with Chris Bennett, Director from BBG Distribution in London who will be giving a seminar on the car, demos and we are having
refreshments etc.

The car in question is a very special Mini .................

Sound In Motion, Antrim & Londonderry

The JL Audio Mini.
In the beginning…
In 1994, JL Audio designed and built one of the premier demo vehicles of the day…a 1961 Austin Mini. The Mini drew crowds wherever it appeared, amazing spectators with its clean innovative installation and breath-taking sound quality. The sound system was a stereo configuration with two JL Audio 5.25” component sets on each side of the dash, three 10W6 subwoofers and 1,200 watts of power. A focal point of the installation was the subwoofers enclosure’s ability to change from a sealed alignment to a bass-reflex (ported) alignment at the touch of a button. The Mini awed countless audio fanatics on the show circuit from 1994 until it was finally retired in 1997.

Fast-forward eight years and JL Audio decided that The Mini would be re-incarnated to showcase the new range of JL Audio products as well as celebrate the original heritage of The Mini within the industry. The question remained however, “How do we create an even bigger impact?” Given technological advancement in the time that has passed since The Mini had been originally retired, and the standard of demonstration vehicles on the show circuit when the new project was about to commence, it was clear that “The Mini v2” would need to be something very special indeed.

Stripped and deadened
Starting from scratch meant stripping the Mini down to its bare bones. All the original audio components, interior parts, the engine, lights, grills etc were all gutted from the car to create a blank canvas. Having been stripped, the bare shell was treated with several layers of specialist in-car soundproofing. Every body panel was lined with a fiberglass panel which, combined with the sound-proofing, virtually eliminated any form of unwanted resonance.

Designing the AV System
The audio system itself was designed as a true 5.1 Audio Visual system with a large monitor and a larger sound system. To accommodate for three front audio channels, the dashboard (like every other interior panel in The Mini) was redesigned and constructed from fiberglass. The flexibility in building interior components around the placement of the speaker drive units meant that complications like air space and speaker location were addressed in their entirety.

The subwoofers
To keep up with five channels of mids and highs would require a subwoofer system with serious potential. There was also an additional element to be considered in that the system was not only for audio listening, nor was it only for movie viewing and effects… it needed to be able to do both…and do BOTH well! The precision of a sealed enclosure would be ideal for audio and straight reproductive sound quality, but the added output of a ported enclosure would be highly complementary to the low frequency effects used in many 5.1 media discs. The answer was simple (and took direct inspiration from The Mini’s previous incarnation); the enclosure must be able to change from sealed to ported. Each of the two JL Audio 12w6v2 drivers lives in its own chamber and has its own port. The inside opening of each port can be sealed off by an actuated cap inside the enclosure.

When the port is capped, the enclosure is sealed. When the port is open, the enclosure is ported. The volume requirements of the 12w6v2 drivers as well as the desired sealed and ported alignments allow the enclosure to morph between configurations without changing enclosure volume.

Amplification
In a 5.1 system, power to the 5 full range channels is to be identical. To accomplish this, a JL Audio 450/4 amplifier was used in 3 channel mode distributing 150 watts RMS per channel (for the front right, centre and left channels) and a JL Audio 300/2 providing 150 watts RMS to each of the rear two channels. To keep up with the 750 watts total for the mid and high end, a JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier has the job of moving those mighty subwoofers with 1000 watts of RMS power. All three amplifiers are mounted in custom motorized drawers located in the boot of The Mini. The boot door is a feat of engineering in itself that motorizes out and under the car to allow the amplifier racks room to slide out of the boot electronically for both show purposes and accessibility.

Sources and Video
An Alpine DVD head unit with a 6 DVD changer sends the signal to an Alpine 5.1 digital processor before distribution to the rest of the system. The entire system is controlled through a Phillips ProntoPro wireless controller. The Mini has two monitors, the first of which is mounted into a custom overhead build. The second screen is an enormous 22” monitor housed on the underside of the bonnet. The latter is accessed by a button in the cabin that raises the bonnet on electric actuators bringing the screen into view.

The Mini comes home…
After wowing the crowds in the American show circuit for nearly two years, The Mini is now for the first and only time in Ireland: if you want to experience the ultimate in mobile audio visual systems, the Mini will be on show at Sound In Motion’s opening weekend in Antrim from 1st September to 5th September, and then at the My Home Exhibition, Kings Hall Belfast between 7th and 9th September. Contact Paul Houston at Sound In Motion Antrim on 02894429440 for more information, on his mobile 07719944644. Visit www.jlaudio.com for more information on the car.

new MINI Clubman
Posted 01.08.2007, 13:42 by Douzeper
News Image

The new MINI Clubman will go on sale in the UK on Saturday 10 November 2007. Based on a concept first shown at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005, the new car is a modern interpretation of its famous Mini predecessors taking into account all the demands and technologies of the 21st century.

Available from launch in three engine variants: Cooper D, Cooper and Cooper S, the new model offers flexible use of space, easier access through innovative door concepts, more space for rear passengers and high levels of safety and customisation options, all without compromising the MINI’s revered driving dynamics.

The new car takes inspiration and styling cues from the Morris Mini Traveller, Austin Mini Countryman and the Mini Clubman Estate, which enjoyed widespread success in the 1960s. Combining enhanced functionality and versatility, the new MINI Clubman nevertheless stays true to the MINI design language with the retention of short body overhangs, wide track, a long wheelbase and the high shoulder line rising towards the rear.

The new MINI Clubman is 24cm longer than the Hatch, signifying 8cm more legroom for rear passengers and the opportunity for MINI to enter the market with five seats. Boot capacity has increased to 260 litres with the seats in place and up to 930 litres with the rear seats down. Access to this extra space has been made easier via the split rear doors and innovative Clubdoor on the right-hand side.

Modern high-performance engines, designed specifically for the 2nd generation MINI, feature new improvements to optimise fuel economy and emission management. Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and a Gearshift Point Indicator are standard on all variants and help the MINI Cooper D Clubman to achieve a low emissions figure of 109 g/km CO2.
The Clubman is the next body style in the MINI range to join the successful Hatch and Convertible models, which have sold over one million models since 2001. All three derivatives will be built at Plant Oxford, where £100 million has been invested in the past two years to increase production up to 240,000 by 2008. This is more than double the planned production capacity prior to the first car coming off the line in spring 2001.

As with the Hatch models, the petrol engines will be assembled at Plant Hams Hall in the Midlands and the body panels and sub-assemblies are from Plant Swindon. This ‘MINI production triangle’ employs approximately 6,800 production associates in the UK.

On-the-road-prices:

* MINI Cooper - £14,235
* MINI Cooper D - £15,400
* MINI Cooper S - £17,210
